2001 Viva Las Vegas Classic Results April, 2001

by Greg House Thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the Viva Las Vegas Classic a resounding success. I have received e-mail after e-mail thanking us for the tournament and how smoothly things went. The truth of the matter is that without the caliber of teams and officials that attended, and the great attitude of cooperation and fellowship everyone displayed, a tournament like that would be impossible.

It was amazing to watch so many high caliber teams playing at near-nationals level in such a grueling format. To top it off, many of the questions were truly at a regional or national level. I know that almost every Division I team said this tournament was the perfect way to prepare for upcoming Regional and National competition. The parity of so many teams led to suppressed scores, much like National finals, but if you watched the matches you know they were almost all knock-down-drag-out fights to the finish (well, at least as knock-down-drag-out as Bible Quiz can be). The erratic scoring from rank to rank will tell the seasoned observer that many teams placed where they did by winning critical games while others lost some squeakers, no matter how close or low scoring the game was. Well, on to the results.

In the A-Division the top four spots were determined in the last four rounds of play as the top five teams played each other in various combinations. In the end Briargate Church of Colorado Springs was the very deserving victor, winning 15 of 17 rounds. Third and fourth place were decided in a one-game playoff. A-Division results were as follows:

Thanks again to all teams and officials,

God Bless,
