David and Denise Sullivan (coach)
David and I oversaw the Junior Bible Quiz ministry at our church for many years and fell in love with Bible Quiz. After JBQ, our daughter was eager to continue memorizing God's Word, but because our church did not have a Teen Bible Quiz ministry, she simply continued helping us in JBQ. When she was in the ninth grade, another mom with teens was also interested in starting a TBQ team, so we all took the plunge and began with little knowledge and even less experience. We have been coaching TBQ for five years now. Any success needs to be attributed to God first, but also some wonderful quizzers from Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota who inspired us as they and their parents mentored our teams. We strive to maintain our focus at each level of quizzing to let everyone know they are included and important. In 2012 we placed 6th at the Regional level and in February of this year we competed in the Front Range Open tournament in Colorado. We have been amazed to observe God grow our teens in their relationships with Him and their fellow quizzers.
Karrin Sullivan (graduated quizzer/assistant coach) I've been in Bible Quiz since before I was old enough to legally compete. I have older brothers so, as a family, we enjoyed learning together, applying the Word of God to our lives, and also competing with each other. Discipline has to be one of the most beneficial "perks" of BQ that carries over to other aspects of life as a student and as a child of God. Also, knowing copious books has aided me in Bible classes as well as everyday conversations discovering truth with friends. Relationships are also key; traveling, being crazy, and loving God together makes this journey an adventure. I have great memories, great friends, and I love Quiz!
Megan Neish (Senior quizzer) I have been a member of the Rapid City TBQ team for the past 3 years. The most exciting match for me this season was an intense tie-breaker for second place at Regionals. Bible Quiz gives me opportunities to have new adventures, see new places, and enjoy the things I like most such as music, hiking, and amusement park rides. It was so much fun visiting the Mall of America when we went to Regionals this year. My favorite verse from Matthew is 7:7-12, the Ask - Seek - Knock passage. It is comforting to know our Father in Heaven will give good gifts if we just ask Him.
Charlie Wilhelm (quizzer) My name is Charlie, and I have been in TBQ for five years. In that time, I have not ceased to have fun with my friends. My favorite section from Matthew is when Jesus is tested in the wilderness. The reason for this is that Jesus demonstrates what TBQ is supposed to be for me. In the section, Jesus responds to all the temptations of the devil with verses from one book. This shows me that, even though there are 66 books in the bible, each ONE is powerful.
Micah Pennel (quizzer) I have been in TBQ for 2 years. I enjoy TBQ very much, especially meeting new people and fellowshipping with them. This will be my first year competing at Nationals; I am very excited for the experience. Chicago is going to be the biggest city I have ever been to. One of my favorite verses is Matthew 16:27 which says, "For the son of man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done."
Curtis Svenson (quizzer) I have been in TBQ for three years, and I have had so much fun. I enjoy quoting and pretty much everything about Bible Quiz. My favorite verse is Matthew 16:16 (. . .you are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God). This will be my first year at Nationals and I believe it will be an amazing experience. My favorite memories of TBQ are the road trips to and from quiz meets because of the socializing and the games.
Spenser Wilhelm (quizzer) I have been in Teen Bible Quiz for three years. I have greatly enjoyed the fellowship with my teammates and with other quizzers. My favorite verse from Matthew is 16:18, "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." I appreciate the courage this verse gives us, that the gates of Hades will not overcome the Church. This will be my first year at Nationals; I hope to enjoy the quizzing and have FUN!
